A lover of all things vinyl, though especially 45 rpms, he compiles and selects every record of his extensive collection. His favorite sport: seeking out singles with THE killer tune.
Far from marathon compilations, his chosen themes (the striptease, the beach, the dance party…) are condensed onto a track-list that never drags or is ever weak, to be listened to from beginning to end with the same passion. While varying the styles (though remaining ever vintage), he links together popular hits and lesser known songs, to delight both the general public and keen connoisseurs.
It starts with a shout, Harvey’s “Anyway you wanta”, and in no time at all it’s got you tapping your feet. Onomatopoeia erupting in rhythm ‘n’ blues and in rock ‘n’ roll, with Latin jazz catching your attention…
The goal: to make you dance, in a different, primitive, spontaneous manner, like an animal… It needs to groove, it needs to throb, it needs to swing. And it does all that with "Shake-O-Rama". The same shouts are to be found in the rockabilly of Jaycee Hill’s “Bump” and in the twist of the El Torros’ “Doop-Doop-A-Walla-Walla”.
Whether you’re surfing with The Duvals or savoring the soul of Johnny Nash, you’ll keep right on shaking your hips.
This selection of 16 gems recorded between 1956 and 1968 is amazingly modern.
Irresistibly smooth yet radical, sharply biting yet affable, these songs from another era have the power to make even the saddest squares laugh and wriggle, dance and jump about. So give it a go. 3, 2, 1... lift off!
